Feel Proud of your Mother Language No matter the distance between the countries where we were born and where we live to keep alive our mother language and feel proud of it. It is a legacy left by our parents and our ancestors that makes us different from others in the world. These sounds, some very serious and some very sharp, have passed from generation to generation by adding or subtracting words according to the needs of each community. But the great responsibility for preserving this rich cultural threatened by the advance of the modern world is in our own hands or even better in our own tongue. Father and mother must transmit the language to the children and linguistics organizations must promote the study of languages. Vancouver and the International Day of Mother Language Fortunately for us, who live in this multilingual city, some steps are being taking toward finding a format that enables us to keep our own language, despite living immersed in the daily use of a wor! ldwide modern language. This road begins to open with the celebration of International Mother Language for the second consecutive year in Vancouver. Along five hours, hundreds of people representing many cultures coming from different parts of the world were mixed in a true expression of customs, colors and sounds so identified each particular ethnic group.
